SUBMITTING TO THE JOURNAL

SUBMITTING AS A JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW

WHAT IS A JRF?

Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) are post-secondary students who are interested in academic legal research and writing. Many of our JRF’s have a keen interest in legal issues and have continued on to law school after completing our JRF program.

Junior Research Fellows are expected to write a research paper that will contribute to knowledge about a legal topic of their choice. JRF’s are mentored by Senior Editor law students and lawyer advisors from coast to coast. After completing an exceptional paper, the JRF’s work will be published on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN).

**Please note being a JRF does not automatically guarantee your work will be published, JRF acceptance only guarantees the paper will be considered for publishing by the CLR Publishing Review Board.

To apply to be a Junior Research Fellow at the Journal, you must at least have completed high school and are either:

  1. Currently enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate or collegiate program; or,

  2. Currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate program; or,

SUBMITTING AS AN EXTERNAL RESEARCH PUBLISHER

WHAT IS AN ERP?

External Research Publishers (ERPs) are post-secondary students who are interested in academic legal research and writing. ERPS, unlike JRFs, however, do not go through the fellowship program and rather research, write, and edit their papers independently. While JRFs are guided by senior editors, associate editors, and advisors during the writing process, ERPs submit a completed research paper towards the middle of the Volume Editorial process.

Submitted ERP papers are then considered by the Editorial Board, and successful papers are directly moved onto the final stages of the editorial process. ERP papers must then make changes to fit the needs of the Volume, but may not have to go through as substantial changes as other papers. After completing an exceptional paper, the ERP's work will be published on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN).

Some applicants may prefer to publish as an ERP as they may feel as though they can research, write, and edit independently at a strong level, and may not need the support of the fellowship process. However, many other applicants may feel that they would benefit by guidance and support throughout the research, writing, and editing process.

**Please note having a paper accepted as an ERP does not automatically guarantee your work will be published in SSRN, ERP acceptance only guarantees the paper will be considered for publishing by the CLR Publishing Review Board.

To apply to be an External Research Publisher at the Journal, you must at least have completed high school and are either:

  1. Currently enrolled in your 3rd year or higher or have completed an undergraduate or collegiate program; or,

  2. Currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate program; or,

  3. Have relevant work experience post-high school of more than 3 years.

ERP APPLICATIONS WILL OPEN EARLY WINTER 2024.
